features eight new classrooms , all located around open learning spaces , as well as three new science labs and STEM facilities .
Pivotal to Norwest ’ s Building Purposeful Lives learning framework is an approach to innovative learning spaces , that stimulate creativity , collaboration , and flexibility . Each classroom is fitted with a wireless , interactive projector and digital whiteboard .
This allows teachers more freedom to move around the room , and for students to be able to display their learning and share it with their peers . This system is integrated with a sound system and low reflection whiteboard , ensuring everything can be seen and heard clearly .
Each room is also acoustically insulated and features lots of natural light so students are able to remain focused and engaged in their learning .
Beyond the usual equipment found in a science lab , all three are fitted with an adjustable bench so students in wheelchairs can participate in practical activities . There are also demonstration cameras above the teachers ’ bench , which is linked to an interactive projector , allowing students to clearly see all demonstrations .
“ The labs are also well soundproofed , creating a calm learning environment - even when students are at their peak excitement levels during science experiments !” Mrs Estelle McNaught , head of science , said whilst smiling .
The Atrium and Learning Stairs , with the capacity to seat 600 people , are central to the new building and provide an essential hub for all secondary gatherings . The Learning Walk , along the first-floor balcony of the Atrium , provides collaborative spaces for students to be able to rearrange furniture to meet their learning needs .
This flexibility allows for individual work , as well as group collaboration , where required . Within these shared spaces , students can easily connect to large , portable screens , and enjoy being active as they use a wide range of writable surfaces . Using butcher ’ s paper is a thing of the past .
College principal Mrs Felicity Marlow is extremely grateful for the expertise of Paynter Dixon Constructions , who ensured the design phase engaged all the relevant stakeholders ; staff , students and parents , along with their dedication to the completion of the project , despite
