Established in 1836 , the Settlers Arms Inn is built from convict-hewn sandstone .
Surrounded by mountains , it nestles alongside the Macdonald River in the small village of St Albans , the heart of the Macdonald Valley .
Of Georgian simplicity , the hotel became a stopover for Cobb and Co stagecoaches travelling between Sydney and Newcastle in the nineteenth century . These days it is an alternative gateway to the Hunter Valley wine districts .
At Wisemans Ferry take the Webbs Creek Ferry Road to St Albans and enjoy the amazing views of the river and surrounding bushland .
Open Wednesday to Sunday , the Settlers Arms Inn is not only popular with day trippers but also provides accommodation comprising four doubles , all with ensuite .
Australian country-style cuisine is available five days a week . It is open seven days a week during school holidays .
Menus vary in accordance with the fresh produce brought in throughout the week .
Pies , tarts , cakes and scones are made on the premises to supplement the tasty and wholesome cuisine provided every day .

The Macdonald Valley is a close-knit community that welcomes hundreds of visitors every weekend and then reverts back to a quiet rural hamlet during the week .
The village of St Albans now hosts a two day market on the second full weekend of every month .
All 2022 dates are on their website or social media , and the next one is 12 and 13 March , starting at 9.00am .

The market is opposite the iconic Settlers Arms Inn and the new awesome children ’ s playground , and offers a carefully-chosen selection of quality gourmet produce , artisan craft goods and fashion clothing whose sellers are committed to our ethos of quality at a fair price .
This includes an amazing array of fresh fruit , vegetables , local pure honey , new and recycled fashion and accessories , home and gift wares , arts and craft , jewellery , plants , gourmet foods and a whole lot more .
