The changing face of Norwest Christian College

It is full steam ahead for the construction of the new Secondary Learning Plaza at Norwest Christian College . Whilst lockdown has slowed progress slightly , Matthew Greene , Executive General Manager from Paynter Dixon Constructions , reports that “ the new two storey atrium building is progressing well , with a targeted completion date of January 2022 in sharp focus ”.
The construction of this Learning Precinct will move all Years 7-10 students into 21st century learning facilities for almost all of their learning . It will also provide all teachers of these cohorts with access to spaces that will enable them to continue their professional learning journey towards integrated , crosscurricular , inquiry , and project-based learning .
The new precinct will be home to eight classrooms , all located around open learning spaces , as well as three new science labs and STEM facilities . It will also have an undercroft space , which is earmarked for future community spaces , such as café , gym and / or wellbeing centres .
One of the unique features will be an atrium space that will be an impressive addition to the college ’ s facilities , allowing it to host assemblies and community events , as well as providing a ‘ learning street ’ for students to work , both individually and collaboratively .
Paynter Dixon are currently commencing the fit-out stage of the build , whilst furniture selection decisions are being finalized . All equipment and features will be of the highest quality , creating learning spaces that excite and invigorate students ’ thinking and creativity .
This new learning precinct is part of the college ’ s extensive Master Plan , which has been developed by Paynter ’ s Dixon ’ s architectural team , along with considerable input from parents , staff , and the college executive .
Uniquely , students have also played an integral part in future considerations for the college campus , as student workshops have been run to collect ideas .
The college ’ s master plan will modernise the architectural aesthetic of the current college facilities , whilst also adding additional building and features to the campus , to ensure it is a leading educational establishment in the Northwest Sydney region .
The new features will include a new multipurpose auditorium , additional learning spaces and a new administration building .
“ A key feature will be the central boulevard , which will provide connectivity between buildings and a range of shade , shelter , and outdoor learning space options for students ,” says Greene .
It sure is an exciting time for those involved with the Norwest Christian College community .
