Anonymous donors ’ generosity lifts our spirits

Like all our readers , I was fast closing in on my lowest ebb due to the continued reincarnation of coronavirus through alpha , beta , gamma and into the rampant delta strain .
Added to that were the antics of the vile anti-vaxers , anti-lockdown lunatics , Coronavirus sceptics and incompetent Federal and State Politicians .
Not to mention those bloody boring 11am inane , ‘ pat-ourselves-on-the-back ’ pep talks by Berejiklian , Barilaro and Chant .
Then comes a ‘ phone call from the Independent ’ s ace photographer , Kathryn Johnston , who was onto the ‘ phone faster than Superman exiting a ‘ phone booth to gleefully tell me about Pitt Town ’ s aptlynamed The Pitt Shop .
For those of you too young to know or too old to remember , The Pitt Shop is your one stop-shop for petrol , pastries , tantalising tucker and coffee to at least maim for ! “ It ’ s just amazing ,” Kathy exclaimed . “ I ordered nine coffees to take away – I was taking them back to hand out to workmen building our new home – and when I went to pay I was told that one of The Pitt Shop ’ s regular customer ’ s had paid for them .
“ I looked around the see who this generous person was and to thank him or her but the lovely young lady behind the counter explained that the Good Samaritan wished to remain anonymous .
“ What do you think about that !”
What I thought about that , was arranging to link with Kathy the following day and paying a visit to The Pitt Shop – not for a freebie coffee but to suss out this truly uplifting story .
So , we revved up our vehicles and made a beeline for a pit stop at The Pitt Shop where we were delighted to meet owner-manager , Marcus Colosimo , who was equally delighted to enlighten us about the beverage benefactors . Yes , benefactors ! “ Just after lockdown restrictions were introduced at the end of June , one of our regular customers approached me and explained that he would like to anonymously pay for a certain amount of coffees ordered during that day ,” Marcus explained .
“ Soon after several other valued clients also followed suit so we now have regular days when customers order their coffees and are delighted to hear their cappuccino , flat-white or latte has been paid for by an anonymous donor .
“ Those customers receiving the free coffees are absolutely gobsmacked by the generosity and kindness and they leave the shop with their spirits uplifted .
“ Many of them are now foregoing the freebie , paying for their coffee and passing on the generosity to the following customer .
“ These anonymous benefactors don ’ t want a pat on the back – they do it through the kindness of their hearts and a desire to uplift the spirits of their fellow
citizens during these trying times .
“ How I love this community !”
Marcus and his partner , Beth Clinton , have lived in Pitt Town for nearly five years and Marcus has been mine host at The Pitt Shop since taking over the business in April .
I asked Marcus could he give me a rough estimate of how many free coffees have been dispensed since that first thoughtful client approached him back in June .
“ Hard to estimate really but over the months since , I reckon our customers take away at least 100 a week ,” Marcus replied .
Now , believe you me , The Pitt Shop is a must stop venue if you require a great cup of coffee .

The Pitt Shop is open seven days a week – 5am-4pm Monday-Friday , 7am- 3pm each Saturday and 8am-3pm on Sundays .
