DIY Ideas
avors for a wedding are an important part of saying thank you to
your guests and family for helping to make your big day as special as
possible. However, sometimes wedding favors can become a little
too costly to purchase. It's a breach of etiquette to have no favors
however.
This is why do it yourself wedding favors have become so popular. It
might sound a little overwhelming to put together all your own wedding
favors. But with these ideas you can find it will be fun, inexpensive,
and easy.
1. Homemade Cookie Mix. Find a good scratch cookie
recipe, one that you enjoy making, and prepare all the dry
ingredients in separate bowls. Then portion out the dry
ingredients for a full cookie recipe into quart-sized glass
jars. This will form attractive layers of ingredients. It's
really great to use a recipe that calls for m&ms because
they will add a pop of color to the mix. Print out the cookie
recipe, complete with wet ingredient list and instructions,
and attach it to the jar. A cute lacy circle of fabric can be
bought at most major craft stores; can be tied over the
screw down lid for a finished, festive look.
2. Candy Hearts Wreaths. For this you will need several
pounds of individually wrapped hard candies, some thin,
flexible wire, a pair of pliers and several wire coat hangers
or a length of thicker wire. Bend a section of wire into a
small heart, leaving a small length at the top that can be
fashioned into a hook or loop. Then string the candy on to
the flexible wire and wrap it around and around the wire
heart. You can select candy colors that match your
wedding colors, or favorite candies of the bride and groom.
This is a time consuming favors so it's better for only
smaller weddings.
3. Promise Boxes. You will need some small paper or
cardboard favor boxes, wrapping paper and supplies,
pens, confetti, and small sheets of easy to fold paper. Start
by writing out brief inspirational messages on as many
sheets of papers as there are guests. It can be “good luck
in 20__”, a meaningful religious text or quote, or a fortune
cookie style prediction. Then fill each box with a pinch of
sparkly confetti, a fortune, and wrap it up. These will make
neat little surprises for your guests.
There are many other wedding favor ideas, so many in fact that it can
become overwhelming. There are a few items that should probably
not be given however. Bath salts, soap, and perfume can potentially
cause allergies for your guests. Likewise, it is in bad taste to give gifts
that even subconsciously suggest the guest need to take a bath. If
there are children coming to your wedding you should also keep in
mind that small favors can pose a choking hazard.
Doing a brief internet search can help you come up with more
wedding favor ideas that you can easily do at home. Always keep
in mind that it's the thought of the favor that really matters the
most. HM
