The Aviation Maintenance Technology provides training for aviation maintenance careers whereby students can achieve their Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ) Aircraft Mechanic Certification in stages that build upon the student ’ s success . Throughout the phases of training , students will earn an Aviation General Advanced Skills Set , Certificate of Applied Science Airframe , Certificate of Applied Science Powerplant , and Associated Degree of Applied Science Aviation Maintenance Technology upon completion of required coursework . Students will learn to perform aircraft maintenance , remove , and replace aircraft components , troubleshoot aircraft malfunctions , and repair aircraft systems and structures . They will also learn to develop plans to solve and repair aircraft discrepancies using manufacturers ’ maintenance manual procedures and approve aircraft for service using FAA mandated documentation . The program focuses on areas of knowledge and skills mandated by the FAA Aircraft Mechanic – General , Airframe , and Powerplant Airmen Certification Standards . The Fixed Wing Army National Guard Aviation Training Site ( FWAATS ) is the Army National Guard ’ s exclusive training site for Army-specific fixed wing academic and flight instruction . FWAATS trains aircrews from all Army components ( Active Duty , National Guard and Reserves ) in the operation of U . S . Army standard and non-standard fixed wing aircraft . In addition to conducting C-12 ( King Air 200 ), King Air 300 , C-26 Metroliner , and other non-standard aircraft qualification courses , FWAATS also trains and qualifies Army pilots in its Maintenance Test Pilot ( MTP ) and Instructor Pilot Standardization ( IPS ) courses ; and the fixed wing Instrument Flight Examiner ( IFE ) course .
