Harringay Online Review of the Year 2013 Dec. 2013 | Page 9

Harringay 2013 9

2013 also saw its crop of goodbyes. Anthos Florist closed after 50 years of business in Harringay (but it was good to see them back in the hood selling Christmas trees from the Langham's car park). Delicious Katami gave up the fight and Ciacho Delikatesy said pożegnanie.

Yayla fell foul of the law with the rental of the flats over the shop and its future seems uncertain. We saw the end of Fairline grocers and after a failed attempt to open the premises a triple sized Turkish restaurant, we learned that it's to be an 'international' supermarket.

The much loved Flame remodeled and was sold only a few months after reopening. There was some news too on the long-demised Obergine premises just next door to Flame (and STOP PRESS the new owner just dropped in online to say hello). Last and by no means least we've recently learned that the Garden Ladder has been sold, probably snapped up along with Nafsika's restaurant next door.

Before closing this chapter, we should probably all take a minute's silence to venerate Disney who celebrated their 100th birthday this year and The Salisbury pub which was listed as a top ten London Heritage pub by CAMRA. Finally, with a firm nod towards the future, no one's missed the start of the regeneration work on Green Lanes and the promise that brings in 2014.
