TAMAR
The emotional adventures of a woman in a far away land.
Unlike other days of the week, Tamar woke up today excited and very hopeful . she was going to take that special trip ,all by herself to the beach , near the eastern shores of Dadar , in Mumbai , India. She dressed up quickly, and took her handbag. she did not forget to take her Bansuri, the Indian flute. she had been taking Bansuri lessons for a couple of months now, and was already playing well !
After the twenty minute Taxi ride, she was there, at the beach. Her glittery eyes greated the ocean, as she took a deep breath, and suddenly life stopped.
Her head was no longer full of those daily thoughts , her body began to let go of any stress, and her soul soothed. she searched for a good spot on the beach , to sit down, very close to the water, and suddenly a young boy came up close, and asked her to buy a small flower basket . She looked at him, and thought his eyes showed such a lively spirit ! Even though his clothes were worn out, he was not wearing any shoes, and he had very bad teeth. But his eyes, they were smiling in such a way that Tamar could not notice that she was actually staring at the boy and had not said anything to him for several seconds. she smiled back , took out her purse, and gave him more than what he expected to be given. He thanked her , and she took the small basket, as the boy ran away to sell another customer. Tamar held the basket in her hand, and thought what a lovely thing she just got herself ! She put it beside her, took her Bansuri flute ,and started playing, her vision on the wide ocean.
As she played, she experienced an amazing feeling of tranquility which she has never in her life experienced before ! But as she played on, she closed her eyes, and felt a strange sensation taking over the feelings of peace. It was something else now. At that moment, she realized that it was true she was very happy with the experience , yet it left her feeling lonely. she was very aware of the fact that you do not need to feel lonely everytime you are alone somewhere, and she had not been feeling this way ever since she began her trip in India, but today, and as a surprise , something deep inside of her was changing. Amid her annoying thoughts, she suddenly felt a hand on her shoulder. Alarmed, she quickly stopped playing to see who it was ! she looked to her right, and saw that it was that same boy who sold her the flower basket a few minutes ago.
" You scared me ! " she told him.
" I am sorry Miss, but your playing is very beautiful, I had to come and tell you this ! " he uttered to her.
She has another close look at him, and found herself asking him :
"Tell me, what is your name? "
" Aanandi Miss, it means the happy one !" he smiled and his bad teeth showed, not that he cared about that !
" Tell me, Aanandi, are you always this happy?"
"I know how to make myself happy, I run after the customers, I show them how much they need my flower baskets, even if they think it is not important to have them, I give them something beautiful to look at, they give me money, and so this way we are all happy !" He spoke quickly, and she tried to get every word he was saying.
" I'll tell you what, do you come here everyday, to sell the people your baskets at the beach?"
" Yes Miss, I come here everyday . "
" well then, I can bring you some more customes, if you like, maybe tomorrow, or the day after !"
This put a big smile on his face.
" Thank you Miss, you are very kind. " and he went off running , with enthusiam and excitement.
Tamar thought that she would like to bring a friend with her next time, or a couple of friends, from the
music center. she learned on that day that it would feel greater to share the peace with another soul.
