Session with Albena
Doll story: Katya does not hear
Albena tells the children that Katya was present on her birthday - a child she
does not hear. Katya felt lonely and ignored by other children. Albena is
worried about her friend and does not know how she can help her.
Teacher’s questions to the children:
1. Do you know other people who have such a problem? What aids are
used by people with impaired hearing?
2. Do you know other people except your relatives who have such a
problem?
3. Can we play games with children who do not hear?
4. Can we help Katya? In what way?
What children mentioned during the session:
1. My grandfather uses a hearing aid to help him listen well. Grandma uses a
hearing aid because she is old and without it she cannot hear what I am talking
about.
2. Yes, children have seen other people who have a hearing disorder. They say
they have met strangers who use a hearing aid. In their kindergarten there was
a child with a hearing aid.
The teacher talks about Beethoven, who used hearing pipes to communicate
with others. The children see photos of Beethoven's pipes, which are kept in his
museum. The teacher shares that Beethoven, despite his deafness, works and
creates great music.
