Malaysia has a vast potential to create a mark on the landscape of the halal industry , considering its dynamic halal ecosystem is embedded within a complex network of businesses , institutions , government agencies and non-government organisations .
Indeed , with conscientious planning and inclusive strategies , Malaysia could uphold its existing worldwide reputation as a leading global halal hub .
The global halal industry is worth US $ 4.3 trillion , and in Malaysia , the halal sector contributes approximately 7.5 per cent to the nation ’ s GDP . Malaysia ’ s exports hit RM40 billion in 2018 , and the number is projected to expand to RM50 billion .
Malaysia is the only country in the world where the growth of the halal industry is funded by the government , allowing synergies between the private and public sectors .
Recently , the Orang Besar Daerah Sepang , Hon Assoc Prof Tengku Dr Jamaluddin Mahmud Shah ( pix ) received the award “ Leadership Excellence in Halal Supply Chain ” for the execution of the most successful and highly-significant halal event of this year – The World Halal Expo .
