Malaysia has topped the list of best Muslimfriendly travel destinations for Muslim travellers .

IT WAS less than two months ago since Muslims celebrated the most awaited Eid al-Fitr after a month of fasting . This year ’ s celebration of Eid al-Fitr was a bit different from the previous two years as people were now allowed to reunite and gather with their big families .

After two years of celebrating Eid with restrictions and travel bans , Muslims in Malaysia went out of their way to make sure they could enjoy the celebration properly .
This year , most of them took the opportunity to return to their hometown , host Eid open houses , buy the best clothes and visit friends and loved ones .
It was great to see that people could experience these things again since Covid-19 hit the country in 2020 .
Just like how Eid brings people together , the opening of many international borders has also allowed many networking and business activities . As one of the most affected industries , Malaysia ’ s tourism sector has slowly recovered from the impacts brought by the pandemic by relying on its domestic market .
Despite the country ’ s readiness to welcome international travellers , the arrivals of foreign tourists to Malaysia are still low compared to the pre-pandemic level .
Nevertheless , little progress is still progress . As a result of its resilience , Malaysia has topped the list of best Muslimfriendly travel destinations for Muslim travellers , according to the MasterCard-CrescentRating Global Muslim Travel Index ( GMTI ) 2022 .
This recognition shows Malaysia ’ s commitment to continue championing this segment of Islamic Tourism . With the introduction of more innovative and exciting tourism products and services , Malaysia ’ s tourism can regain its pre-pandemic momentum .
Until then , for the time being , just like this year ’ s Eid celebration , tourism stakeholders can take the opportunity to host domestic tourists and offer them the best travel experiences . p10-11 COVER STORY Muslim travellers choose Malaysia Malaysia remains top destination for Muslim travellers in GMTI 2022 Report
