FWD Takaful launches FWD CI First

FWD Takaful Berhad ( FWD Takaful ) announced the launch of FWD CI First , a plan designed to reduce complexity and constraints for critical illness protection .
The FWD CI First allows certificate owners to claim if they experience a major medical or lifestyle impact , regardless of the illness , including rare or unknown diseases .
FWD CI First is available to cover individuals up to 85 years old with the sum covered up to RM1,000,000 to suit customers ’ needs .
The plan offers benefits that include critical illness and lifestyle
impact , death coverage , as well as waiver of contribution .
With the optional maturity reward benefit , customers will also get a refund of the total contribution paid upon maturity if they don ’ t make any claim .
FWD Takaful ’ s Chief Executive Officer , Salim Majid Zain said : “ Traditional critical illness plans focus on a long list of defined illnesses that can make claims difficult and complex .
“ Driven by our customer-led approach , we created FWD CI First to simplify critical illness protection by removing unnecessarily complicated coverage lists to give customers one less thing to worry about in the unfortunate event of any critical illness .”
The plan also introduces new coverage such as early detection to advance stage of critical illness , Intensive Care Unit ( ICU ) stay due to specified causes and complex surgery to vital organs , among others .
Additionally , the waiver of contribution feature will waive all future contributions once 50 per cent of the sum covered claim is paid and the certificate will continue with the coverage .

HDC , UMT sign MoU to set up halal innovation centre

The Halal Development Corporation Berhad ( HDC ) and Universiti Malaysia Terengganu ( UMT ) signed a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU ) in early April to establish a Halal Innovation Centre in Terengganu through academic cooperation in terms of training and research .
HDC chief executive officer Hairol Ariffein Sahari said the MoU was in line with HDC ’ s vision to make halal the first choice in venturing into businesses as well as providing more skilled manpower in the halal industry for the local and international markets .
“ This collaboration signifies the importance of the halal industry in the new economic era as the global halal industry is very large with demand reaching $ 3 trillion ( RM12.42 trillion ) a year ,” said Hairol .
“ Various business opportunities and prospects in study opportunities , as well as adding value to talent development initiatives and quality employment are available in this field .
UMT is the first higher education institution in Terengganu to collaborate with HDC in enhancing halal research , development and subsequently creating a Halal Innovation Centre in Terengganu .”
The MoU was signed by Hairol on behalf of HDC while UMT was represented by its vice-chancellor Prof Dato ’ Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar , witnessed by Entrepreneurship , Human Resources , Micro Industry and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Mohd Nurkhuzaini Ab Rahman at the opening of the Malaysia Halal Tour Programme organised by HDC

33 food premises found without halal certificate

A LARGE-scale patrol operation by enforcement officers of the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department found 33 of 90 inspected food premises have not applied for the Halal certificate .
Two were found using the halal label or logo of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council without permission and five were displaying expired halal certificates .
The operation , conducted in Gadong , Batu Satu , Kiulap and the city centre , was to enforce the provisions of Section 4 ( 1 ) and Section 10 ( 1 ) ( a ), Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order , 2005 on the obligation to apply for a Halal Certificate or Halal Permit of the Brunei Islamic Religious Council imposed on food entrepreneurs in the country .
The owners of these premises will be investigated for legal action under Section 12 ( 3 ) ( a ) and Section 35 , Halal Certificate and Halal Label Order , 2005 which involve fines up to BND4,000 and BND8,000 , or imprisonment up to one year and two years or both .
The Syariah Affairs Department of the Ministry of Religious Affairs emphasised , an application must be made to obtain a halal certificate or halal permit for food businesses operating in the country .
