Dinner plate w / dramatic border showing fire pumpers ( probably state-of-the-art equipment for the period ) and eagles w /“ Dec . 16 / 1935 ” date below , separated by banners reading “ Great Fire , City Of New York .” One of three designs depicting the tragedy . The fire burned 17 city blocks , nearly 50 acres of territory , in lower Manhattan . Included among the hundred of buildings lost was the New York Stock Exchange dramatically depicted here . Text “ Clay Forever ” appears on straight sided cylinder portion of the lantern surrounded by two stars and geometric designs . The cone top / tapered portion of the lantern includes three hearts and two stars . A star and Masonic design appears on the door . These provide ventilation and allows for the light to escape . A wire hanger and tin loop is attached to the top for hanging and display . The original door latch and two hinges remain . General oxidation overall . This item remains true to its original form . The cone top / tapered portion of the lantern includes more punched areas for ventilation and for the light to escape . A wire hanger and tin loop is attached to the top for hanging and display . The original door latch remains . The two door hinges were compromised and replaced by two wires long ago . General oxidation and light dents appear at lower door and base .
