Featuring an image of Lon Chaney w / gnarly teeth . Promoting a Jan 20 , 1990 concert at “ Legends ” in Tacoma , WA . A single pin hole at top center . Otherwise only light handling wear . Exc . Examples are pictured in the biography Come As You Are on p . 56 , in an issue of Playboy magazine as part of a feature on the band as well as the documentary films Soaked In Bleach and Montage Of Heck . Tacoma is an important city in the band ’ s history , as they performed some of their earliest shows there , and the gritty nature of the working-class city influenced the edginess of their sound helping define them from their Olympia and Seattle contemporaries . This show occurred at the beginning of 1990 seven months after the release of Bleach and despite being relatively early in their career it would ultimately be their final show in the city . An important artifact of the grunge era . ( L ) $ 500.00 1893 . SCREAMING TREES & NIRVANA “ IT CAME FROM UP NORTH ” 1990 PORTLAND , OR CONCERT POSTER . 10-3 / 8x16-3 / 8 ” offset litho . Terrific design featuring The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms and 1950s-esque woman in shock at right . Signed in print by artist Steven Birch at left of graphic “ Mr . Steve 1990 .” Despite the solid critical response to their debut album Bleach , released July 15 , 1989 , Nirvana continued to play second to the more established bands of area , here opening for Screaming Trees who had recently signed a major label contract w / Epic Records . Twelve songs from this concert were released as part of the 20th Anniversary edition of Bleach . All Nirvana posters from this stage of the band ’ s career are scarce and this design is among the most attractive . That fact combined with the terrific slogan “ It Came From Up North ” shows this poster is among a handful in the running to answer the question “ If you had only one Nirvana poster which one would it be ?” ( K ) $ 400.00 1894 . Hand screened by Jeff Ross and intended to be used by venues hosting the band during their small American club tour in 1990 promoting their debut album Bleach . These were produced in limited number , likely around 100 for the 1990 tour . A darker yellow example was also produced . Ross utilized an image from Sub Pop photographer Charles Peterson of Kurt Cobain during a gig at the University of Washington on Jan . 6 , 1990 . The posters were distributed by Sub Pop and the band and are among the most impressive looking posters of the era . Paper is slightly wavy . There is a very faint moisture mark in the cream field at lower right , a tiny chip of missing paper at lower right and a staple hole in each of the other three corners .
