THE FALL ATHENS , GREECE 1988 CONCERT POSTER . 19x27 ” on thin paper promoting a The Fall concert at the famous club “ Rodon ” in Athens , Greece . For a long time , this was the only rock and pop club in Athens , hosting many Greek and foreign bands over its lifespan from 1987 to 2005 , including The Fall , which included one of rock ’ s greatest weirdos , vocalist Mark Smith , who was the only recurrent throughline member of the English post-punk band . This poster features the photo lineup of the band as they were in 1988 , and the Greek text promotes the event taking place January 22-23 at what was then a young historical venue . One of the more prolific and highly esteemed artists of all time touring at the start of his Graffiti Bridge era right after the success of the Batman sound track . On thin white stock signed in print at lower right “ Bret 83 ”. Promoting a Metallica gig w / the band billed as “ The Heaviest Band Known To Man ”. Opening act Wild Dogs is billed as “ Portland ’ s Metal Madmen .” Graphics at bottom feature Gibson Flying V guitars leaned up against Marshall stacks flanking the ticket price “$ 7.50 At The Door ”. Two thin pieces of clear tape along top edge w / surface paper lift affecting top left . When poster is held to light there are a few scattered black ink touch ups most notably to “ Dogs ” at center . VG . Metallica would rise to the kind of fame only known to generational defining bands but in these early years they cut their teeth on the club circuit . Concert took place in the Seattle suburbs at Lake Hills Arena better known as Lake Hills Roller Rink , a 1,500 capacity skating venue . Metallica had recently fired guitarist Dave

Mustaine replacing him w / Kirk Hammett bringing together the band ’ s classic lineup of James Hetfield , Lars Ulrich and Cliff Burton who himself had only recently joined the band playing his first gig in March of 1983 . Their studio album debut Kill ‘ Em All hit the shelves on July 25 and after a short tour the band reconvened in San Francisco to work on new material . They booked several West Coast shows , including this one , to test out these new songs many of which would be included on their 1984 follow up Ride The Lightning .
