Feb . 27 at the Civic Auditorium put on by radio station KROY . Subtle wave designs in the background accent “ The Beach Boys ” text combined w / the youthful photo of the surf rockers . A week after this show the group ’ s new album ‘ The Beach Boys Today !’ was released and single “ Do You Wanna Dance ?” entered the charts the very week of this gig . Corner bump upper left and age toning throughout , not affecting the image . Exc . Upper margin is blank as handbills were designed to have venue / shows information printed there , but this example is unused . This was an early stop on Dylan ’ s four month world tour , after which he wouldn ’ t tour for 8 years following a motorcycle accident . Items from this tour are scarce . Promoting Grateful Dead concerts w / opening bands Quick Silver Messenger Service at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco , CA on Jan . 27-28 , 1967 . Superb graphic w / pin hole in each corner , smudge at 3 o ’ clock in red field , corner bumps and edge wear . Small light brown stain on verso at bottom left not affecting front view . Fine . Original first printing w /“ The Bindweed Press San Francisco ” immediately above the right side of the ticket strip . Promotes concerts September 16-17 at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco , CA . Designed by Stanley Mouse and Alton Kelley who utilized a 19th century illustration by Edward Joseph Sullivan from an Arabian poetry publication “ The Rubaiyat Of Omar Khayyam ” that they discovered at the San Francisco Public Library . This image is easily the most recognizable of the Family Dog series and has risen to the level of icon in the canon of American popular culture as the definitive image representing the most enduring band of the San Francisco psychedelic scene that spawned the 1960s cultural revolution . Reverse has “ Lorin Gillette Distributor Box 15125 San Francisco , Calif . 94115 ” stamp at bottom center . Front displays moisture mark and brown pin point staining at lower right corner , corner crease at top right , pin hole in each corner , faint stain at top left margin , smudge in bottom left margin and moderate handling wear . Two surface paper lifts one just below the “ O ” in “ Avalon ” the other in the blue field above skeleton . Top and bottom center has clear tape remnant . VG . Strong color makes this an enticing example especially w / high grade examples reaching well into the five and even six figure range . Recognized immediately as a dynamic image these were snapped up by the hippy community who subsequently carried them through life ’ s travels , tacking them up at every stop along the way . This universal adoration has left the population of surviving pieces in mostly ragged condition w / color fading , heavy corner losses and / or extensive restoration being the norm . Striking examples , like this one , are thus extremely scarce and highly coveted .
