KENNEDY “ SRO FOR RFK ” 1968 CAMPAIGN CONCERT POSTER . 11x17 ” thin cardboard poster for May 24 , 1968 campaign concert which took place at the LA Sports Arena in Los Angeles , CA . The concert took place just four days prior to the shocking loss of the May 28 Oregon primary to Eugene McCarthy that set the stage for the crucial California primary on June 4 . The latter was won by Robert Kennedy but ended in tragedy on the following day when he was fatally shot exiting the hotel after his victory speech . The concert featured The Byrds , Sonny & Cher , Mahalia Jackson , Roosevelt Grier and others as well as appearances by Shirley MacLaine , Gene Kelly and Jerry Lewis . Poster design by Mortimer features three images of RFK w / psychedelic lettering including “ SRO ” which stands for “ Standing Room Only .” Tickets were available on campuses for “ Students For Kennedy ” or at “ Kennedy For President ” headquarters . He was a staunch abolitionist as well as an early temperance leader and has been nicknamed the “ Father of Prohibition .” He co-founded the National Temperance Society and Publishing House with James Black in 1865 and was an early leader in the Prohibition Party . He was the party ’ s presidential nominee in 1880 . Letter is 5x8 ”. Letter has age toning w / an edge tear along the top edge in center . Fine . Also included is portrait CDV . 2.5x3.75 ”.
