Bold text w / striking green color having an almost watercolor
effect on candidate ’ s names . This ties nicely w / the green leaves and red blooms on the floral motif border . Edge tatters , losses and age throughout . Professionally cleaned and mounted to fabric backing for stability w / scattered restoration including limited inpainting . VG . A remarkable survivor considering the untold travels during its over 168 years of existence . Collins Threads of History lists five Fremont banners ( w / all but one in institutional collections ) and we have encountered four others over the last 57 years . All pre- Civil War political campaign textiles are extremely scarce and Fremont material is notably so . Hake Political Buttons Book III ( 1789-1916 ) pictures four different sizes of this “ doughnut ” rim ferro for Bell and Everett . This is next to the largest at 1-9 / 16 ” diameter with rim a full 5 / 16 ” thick . Each ferro has the name above the image plus portrait is flanked by a pair of tiny design accents . Bell has tiny 1 / 32 ” dot on his forehead and extreme rim edge at 8 o ’ clock has 1 / 32 ” dot of emulsion off . On the Everett side , there is a 1 / 64 ” dot on his forehead . A small loop on the rim at 12 o ’ clock is gone . Overall VF and rare in this large size . ( J / K ) $ 400.00 37 . BELL & EVERETT 1860 BACK-TO-BACK FEROTYPE JUGATE BADGE . 15 / 16 ” ( 25mm ). DeWitt # 1860-27 . Holed for suspension at top . A few tiny areas of emulsion loss on portraits , most notably on Bell ’ s shirt at 6 o ’ clock . Otherwise light scattered wear on portraits and moderate wear on brass frame . Overall VF . ( H / I ) $ 100.00 38 . LINCOLN HAMLIN 1860 BACK-TO-BACK FERROTYPE JUGATE BADGE . 7 / 8 ” ( 25mm ). Solid brass frame . DeWitt 1860-98 . Tiny indentation on ferro on Lincoln side at 5 o ’ clock at extreme outer edge that is only seen in reflected light .
