shop, or a glamorous storefront— each space reflecting the cultural contrasts at the heart of Hairspray. This design isn’ t just about setting the scene; it’ s about celebrating how characters break through boundaries, quite literally stepping out of the box. Bright colors, creative mechanics, and a little stage magic help us bring this high-energy, heartfelt story to life.
Created by Chicago-based designer, Lucie Greene, and executed by TCR ' s scenic and technical directors— with assistance from our expert professional carpenters, painters, and electricians— this set has been a joy to see come to fruition.
We hope the world we’ ve built delights your eyes as much as the story touches your heart. Enjoy the show!
