THE SPIRIT OF SERVICE
Volunteer Washington County likes to say,“ For our community to fulfill its potential, we don’ t need a few people to do a lot; we need everybody to do just a little.” Fortunately, Washington County had many local businesses support Washington County’ s 2 nd Annual MLK Day of Service.
VWC would like to thank The Columbia Bank and Grease Monkey for financially sponsoring the E-Recycling Program and our partners— Freedom Electronics Recycling, Horizon Goodwill Industries, Washington County Government, WCPS, Hagerstown magazine and Penske— for their service and gift-in-kind contributions, valued at $ 3,800. In collaboration with our partners, Volunteer Washington County recycled more than 35,000 pounds of electronic equipment and kept it from entering the landfill. The computer components received by Horizon Goodwill, thanks to their partnership with Dell Connect, will fund 167 hours of job training right here in Washington County.
VWC would also like to thank the following businesses for sponsoring the MLK Day of Service Volunteer Opportunities: Ewing Oil, Tim Fraker Signs, Bella Salon and Spa, and Planet Technologies. These businesses enabled our organization to host 17 volunteer opportunities involving 22 nonprofit organizations and 14 businesses, in which critical community needs were addressed.
VWC would like to express its gratitude to the business leaders who sponsored the MLK Day of Service Basketball Tournament, which was co-hosted by Memorial Recreation Center, and to those businesses and community groups who entered teams. Through their participation and generous support, an outdoor basketball court at Memorial Recreation Center will no longer be just a dream— it will be a reality.
Volunteer Washington County and Memorial Recreation would like to thank Meritus Health and Screentique for their Gold and Silver level sponsorships, respectively, and Toni Sandridge Insurance and Financial Services, Sheetz, Kaplan University and the City of Hagerstown for their Bronze level sponsorships. We would also like to acknowledge the following teams for their participation and financial support: Team Swoosh, Police Athletic League, Memorial Recreation, Screentique, Smash Hit Records, Team Arête, Second Coming and Best Buy. Sincerely, Bernadette Wagner, Co-Director Volunteer Washington County
