Tim’ s Tips:
TIM SHARES TIPS FOR GARDENING SUCCESS.
• Choose an item like a statue to make a focal point, then mound greenery in front of it.
• Always keep the hose down to the ground when watering to lessen the chance of mildew and mold.“ It’ s all together different when Mother Nature does it than when we do.”
• Pull Dahlia tubers out in the fall and store in a cool, dry place that doesn’ t freeze.
• Let daffodils and tulips die down naturally— don’ t tie them.
• Get a good trowel and a shovel.“ I never wear gloves. I gotta feel my fingers in the earth. I can’ t be bothered with gloves.”
• In the summer, water flower pots every day and beds twice per week.
Tim( opposite) started with a blank slate when he planted the garden, which slopes upward from the house( above); By synchronizing his plantings, Tim ensures something is blooming( left and right) in his garden from February’ s first snowdrops until the last frost of fall. www. hagerstownmagazine. com | HM @ Home 2013 H9
