Highly visible along Route 11, Homewood at Williamsport’ s newly renovated Woodlands Luxury Apartments Building is a beautifully executed and welcoming structure attracting the eye of passersby. And, it represents the culmination of a successful six-year partnership between the continuing care retirement community and Brechbill & Helman Construction, which oversaw a complete renovation of the former nursing home building, built in the early 1950s.“ It was a total interior demolition of all the services and walls, [ plus ] a total exterior renovation, with the addition of all the bump-outs to create the dining areas, with box-bay windows,” says Brechbill & Helman Project Administrator Harold Shipp,“ There can be many unknowns in a renovation. Because there are additional challenges, you have to learn how to adapt.”
The Woodlands Luxury Apartments were completed in October, bringing an end to the last major project in a seven-year period that resulted in a near-total rebuild and renovation of the Homewood Campus— and Brechbill & Helman has been there every step of the way. Conrad Peachey, vice president of operations for Homewood Retirement Centers, notes that Brechbill & Helman initially submitted the low bid for the construction of Homewood’ s new 82-bed skilled nursing
facility that opened in 2009. The quality of their work earned them the trust of Homewood for the remainder of the planned projects: renovations to the campus community center, the Woodlands project and ongoing updates to Homewood’ s 125 independent living cottages.
