FAHRNEY-KEEDY OPENS NEW‘ THERAPY GYM’
Fahrney-Keedy Home & Village celebrated the completion of its new rehabilitation center in mid-December. At the“ Therapy Gym,” Flagship Rehabilitation works in partnership with Fahrney-Keedy to provide residents physical, occupational and speech therapies, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment.“ Even with advanced technology the program is only as good as the people behind it, and our teams of therapists make the difference,” says Deborah Haviland, director of marketing at Fahrney-Keedy. Brechbill and Helman Co. managed construction of the project, which was designed by Noelker and Hull Associates, Inc.
FARM BUREAU NAMES OFFICERS
The Washington County, Maryland Farm Bureau elected new officers for 2013. David Herbst, elected president, is a third generation dairy farmer from Ringgold who owns and operates Misty Meadow Farm and Creamery on more than 400 acres in the Smithsburg area. Matt Schnebly, elected vice president, has worked as a service technician with Select Sire Power for 14 years and served on the Maryland State Young Farmers
Executive Board for the past four years. New treasurer Brooks Long is a seventhgeneration dairy farmer who owns and operates the 162-acre Long Delight Farm in Williamsport. Secretary Terri Shank is a retired agricultural educator and partner with Palmyra Farm, LLC., currently employed with the Maryland Ag Ed Foundation( MAEF).
EXCELLENCE IN PATIENT CARE
VHA, Inc. recently announced that Waynesboro Hospital has received the 2012 VHA Mid-Atlantic APEX( Achieving Patient Care Excellence) Award, for demonstrating“ extraordinary levels of patient safety and clinical performance,” writes Kathleen Williams, director of performance improvement for VHA. In October 2012, Waynesboro Hospital received awards from The Joint Commission and Pennsylvania Department of Health for compliance to patient safety standards and for being a top performer in patient care.“ We want our neighbors to rest easier knowing that the doctors and staff at their hometown hospital are working hard every single day to provide safe, evidencebased medical care,” says Waynesboro Hospital Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Melissa Dubrow.
MLK DAY OF SERVICE
Volunteer Washington County hosted its second annual Day of Service and Celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. VWC organized an E-Recycling and Collection Program, MLK Day Art and Poetry Contest, Business Basketball Tournament to raise funds for an outdoor basketball court at Memorial Recreation Center, and encouraged organizations to host Sunday Suppers. A number of businesses and community organizations volunteered their time and resources to complete service projects throughout the region. Winners of this year’ s art contest, with the theme of“ Celebrating Dr. King’ s Legacy,” were Erin Miettille, first prize for“ Elements of Goodness;” Mahja Collins, second prize for“ Love Harmonizes Life;” and Lauren Giannola and Liana James, tie for third prize.
