MY ADVICE TO OTHERS:
•
Get Involved
Get yourself out there and involved as soon as you can.
You never know who you're going to meet and where it will take you. And who
knows, you might just end up having a little fun while you're at it too.
•
Stay Ahead
Your worst enemy is procrastination. Once you fall behind, it makes it even
harder to catch up. So, try and stay ahead or at least on time. The last two years
are crunch time and they go by so quick.
•
Office Hours
It is never a bad idea to get some face-time in with your professors. Whether you
have homework trouble, a simple question, or just want a meaningful chat, your
professors will almost always welcome you with open arms. They are a great
source of advice and letters of recommendation . Believe me, they will remember
you.
•
Look for Opportunities
They are all around you. It is hard to find an opportunity if you are not looking
for one, which makes it even harder to recognize one. Build equity in yourself,
do research, join organizations, volunteer, go to conferences, job fairs,
workshops, socials, etc. They will take you somewhere you never imagined.
•
Don't Get Discouraged
Things change from semester to semester and a really bad one can ruin your
momentum. If you are having a tough day, week, month, or even an entire
semester, you have to get some fresh air and try to relax. Some things are just out
of our control and no matter what comes your way, you need to stay confident in
knowing that you will prevail.
•
Make the Most of It!
This is your life. Embrace learning and your dreams. Get as much help and
as much good advice as you can along the way. Utilize campus services, learn
from your mistakes, and most importantly, do it for yourself but don't forget
who has helped you along the way. It will pay off.
