In a Moment
by Sandy Feinstein
Snow falls, ice coats.
Deer raise their heads,
stare, disappear.
Cars spin their wheels,
plans pile up, drift.
Geese in a circle
watch a red-tailed hawk
hunched over a mole.
Broken plows, bad backs,
impassable roads,
rigs on their side,
lines elongate,
wait until later.
Two great blue herons
fly over the floes.
