Up winding stairs
in buildings winding down
shadows of youth
peer down, peer down
Curious people
warm fires in the dark
with lights in their eyes
and look down, look down
A sense of waiting
of having waited
of waiting endured
drifts down, drifts down
Ghosts of walls
and walls for ghosts
shapes that pause
to dream down, dream down
Memories in the dust
that sightless have seen
a weight like history
bears down, bears down
The world moves on
yet places stand still
and lives lived in echoes
shine down, shine down
