First of all let me say I love Everton Football Club - always have done, and no one could ever sway me from
that fact. My Dad took me to
Goodison Park when I was a
young child, in the 1950’s, and the
excitement I felt then has never
left me. I have followed the Blues
from that day to this, and every
single time I walk through the
turnstiles, I get the same buzz and
feeling of pride. No matter how
the team is doing, those feelings
never wane. Over such a long
period, I have obviously seen a
wide mixture of games, together
with great times, mediocre times,
and a few pretty poor times. There
are a good number of matches that
stick in my memory, for various
reasons, but I’d have to say my
favourite match of all was the FA
Cup Final, at Wembley Stadium,
on 14th May 1966.Everton met
Sheffield Wednesday that day, and
were the first team to reach the
FA Cup Final, since 1903, without
conceding a goal on the way
there. As it turned out, that was to
change very quickly! My Dad and
myself had travelled to London
on the day before the match.
We’d collected special vouchers
from the matchday programmes,
right through the season, and so
qualified for a Cup Final ticket,
on a first come first served basis.
I queued up in Bullens Road for
14 hours, and managed to secure
a ticket.
