Today, issuers with the IR Recognition stand out for having adopted
practices that ensure that corporate
information is available and within
reach of all their investors, especially
foreign investors, who generally have
the most issues understanding the
information local companies publish.
And while nomination is voluntary, once this IR Recognition
is obtained, the issuer commits to
meeting the requirements, such as
having a trained person handle the
task of investor relations, quarterly publishing consolidated financial
information, hold events to present
quarterly results and maintain a
website with the company information the BVC requires in English and
Spanish, among other things.
In this regard, María Uriza Pardo,
manager of Corporate and Securities
Affairs of Grupo Argos, explained
some of the benefits of transparency
in the relationship between issuers
and investors in the capital market.
“The best way to build trust in
a company is by adequately disclosing accurate and timely information. Thus, although the disclosure
mechanism of periodic or relevant
information established by our
laws is appropriate for information
disclosure at a local level, in some
events it is insufficient for transmitting information to current or potential investors outside of Colombia,” said the executive.
According to Uriza, the introduction of international standards in the
Colombian securities sector allowed
companies to move with solvency in
international spheres. “For a while
now Colombian issuers have compe-
ted for investment not only in Colombia but across the globe, especially
because of the growing participation
of foreign investment funds, issuances in other countries and integrated
markets,” she explained.
Additionally, with the creation of
the IR Recognition, another important tool was born: the COLIR index.
This index is comprised of stocks of
companies on the COLEQTY index
that obtained this distinction. This
recognition allows investors to follow
the trends of these companies that
believe in the quality of the relations
with their investors as an added and
differentiating value.
Thus in harmony with the global
trend, Colombia is adopting mechanisms to guarantee transparency in
its capital market and the IR Recognition is one of them.
