The set of fees associated with a real estate transaction or "closing costs" are different in EVERY market but the one thing to remember when you are negotiating a contract is that EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE.
Even though a buyer may normally pay for an appraisal or a seller may normally pay for documentary stamps on the deed, EVERYTHING can be on the table to discuss. There is a lot of money wrapped up in these fees, sometimes as much as 7% or more for any one party.
I have had a lot of success in helping buyers pay less at closing or sellers make a little more money at closing by simply remembering to add these fees to the discussion. Don't just assume that it is your responsibility to pay a certain fee.
Get closing costs in to the negotiation, ideally as soon as possible, and you can close your real estate transaction with a little more money in your pocket!
