Head to the ‘Sound’
OF HOT FISHING
M
ississippi Sound
links several baitrich river deltas,
sandy beaches and a string of
barrier islands along the Gulf
Coast, providing anglers
with abundant opportunities
to catch big speckled trout in
varied habitat.
“We have gulf fishing,
river fishing, island fishing,
surf fishing and bay fishing
all combined in one general
area,” advised Robert Brodie
of Team Brodie Charters
who runs out of Biloxi, MS.
Averaging about 12 to
20 feet deep, the Sound extends about 90
miles along the coast between Dauphin
Island, AL and Lake Borgne in southeast
Louisiana. It encompasses the entire
length of the Mississippi coastline. The
Jourdan River flows into Bay St. Louis,
a major estuary off Mississippi Sound
near the town of Bay St. Louis, MS.
Several rivers and bayous also flow
into Back Bay, also called Biloxi Bay.
Back Bay connects to Mississippi Sound
through a deep pass between Biloxi and
Ocean Springs, MS. Farther east,
Mississippi Sound connects to Mobile
Bay in Alabama.
“The Mississippi Gulf Coast is a
great place to fish,” remarked Ronnie
Daniels with Fisher-Man Guide Services
who runs out of Pass Christian
