Little did they know in 1964 when they recorded a song written by Jerry Ragovoy and previously covered that same year by Irma Thomas , how prescient the title would be as “ time ” literally has been “ on their side ” for over 50 years ! When their dandy young
lead guitarist flashed his best Chicago blues licks in the solo , decades before assuming his iconic pirate ’ s countenance , he intelligently resolved to the V chord in the key of F with dyads relative to C7 and the C composite blues scale presented in Fig . 5 .

Fig . 6 shows a small but theoretically significant section of the solo from a classic voodoo / psychedelic / R & B ballad played by the master of the Stratocaster . By bending the
2nd to the major 3rd against the root in the major pentatonic scale relative to the G and F chord changes , he formed a root / 3rd dyad convincingly implying G major and F major .
