A Flair for Flamenco n umerous rock bands from The Ventures to Dire Straits and beyond have taken a crack at some variation of a popular , classic rock progression perhaps best exemplified by “ All Along the Watchtower .” It is derived from Flamenco music with the changes , for example , like the vi-V-IV-III7 , or Am-G-F-E ( 7 ) in the common key of C . However , most rock guitarists see the chords as being in the relative minor key of Am . Its appeal is no mystery as the descending progression has built-in drama and is irresistible to jam over with the minor pentatonic scale or Aeolian mode .
