LISTEN HEAR
Were they country blues? – because at the
time they were developed, there wasn’t an
electric guitar? This was the type of music
you could sit on your back porch and get
together with your friends and play. You
didn’t need an electric guitar.
Well I don’t know. As soon as there were
amplifiers, the first place that got them was the
country, not the city. They got them from Robuck
catalogs and Ward catalogs.
AN AFTERTHOUGHT:
I have also included a link to the opening number
from A Long Time Comin’, which is the best blues
rock rendition of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Killing Floor.”
That says a lot considering you can find versions
by Hendrix, Clapton, and Zeppelin (“The Lemon
Song”). If you’re a modern blues-rock fan and
haven’t found this album yet, you are in for some
good time. Enjoy.
I was under the impression that the
amplifier was developed so you could be
heard over people talking in the bars.
The amplifer was developed the same way the
microphone was developed. It was loud – that’s
true – but as soon as an amplifier was for sale,
the first place you could get anything musical
for that was for sale, before you could even get
them in the stores, was the Robuck catalog and
Ward catalog.
