Clapton played with the famed Texas
bluesman on and off during the mid-70s,
including sessions in Florida that yielded
this blistering 22-minute jam. The third
player in the room was the terrific slide
guitarist George Terry, a member of Eric’s
so-called “Tulsa band” of the period.
For the big-budget film Tommy, The Who
asked Clapton to play the role of the
Preacher - a sly wink at his “Clapton is
God” persona. With lyrics by bluesman
Sonny Boy Williamson and music by
Pete Townshend, Eric rips a mighty solo
backed by Townshend, bassist John
Entwistle and future Who drummer
Kenney Jones.
