THE
ALLMAN
BROTHERS
Southern Rock. By 1970 the Allman Brothers
Band tackled the term and defined what it
meant. Blues rock, country swing, and jazz
melded together under the forge of the original
six members. They gave us two Hall of Fame
guitarists, double leads, double drums, and
in Gregg Allman, one of the most expressive
vocalists in rock. It wasn’t long before other
bands could be found in their wake. Yet no
southern band would ever come up with
the combined talents of the original Allman
Brothers. Listen here as guitarist Dickey Betts
and drummer Butch Trucks tell the tale of how
Duane took up slide guitar, and the day they
became a band of brothers.
