Steps to Take to Prevent Tire Damage
• Be alert and drive safe
• It is important to be alert on the road, even if you have been driving for a long
time and know all the roads. No matter how experienced and efficient you may be,
you still cannot predict what is going to happen the next moment. A lot of external
factors can affect your vehicle’s tires. It could be other drivers, poor roads,
diversions due to some ongoing work on a road and even harsh climate.
• Keep clear of potholes, barriers and litter
• In many advertisements you may have seen about the sturdiness of certain tires.
Though they do provide the required stability, it is not possible every time. Many a
times, climate plays a very prominent role and roads expand, crack or become
jarring because of the dips due to temperature changes. Over time, when you go
from the same road repeatedly, or if the cavities are too deep and hard, there are
chances your tire(s) might get punctured or even get damaged beyond repair.
• Do not overload the vehicle
• Never keep more luggage or have more passengers in your vehicle than the limit
specified in the owner’s manual or the placard in the vehicle door that specifies
the gross vehicular weight rating. Overloading your vehicle can cause severe
damage to the tires or even cause a blowout.
• Always keep the tires sufficiently inflated
• Know the right PSI level that your tire should have, based on the road condition
and number of passengers and keep the tires properly inflated before you start
your journey or even short trips. By doing this, you can see the performance of the
tires greatly improve and they will wear evenly. The overall weight of the car will
also be balanced. This also keeps the tires fit for a longer time and improves fuel
efficiency.
