Swallowwort is a very aggressive vine that quickly covers and out-competes native vegetation. Vast thickets can be found in areas of northern New York, but to date has only been found in isolated patches in the Southern Tier.

Mile-a-Minute Vine is a fast-growing vine with rose-like thorns and leaves shaped like arrowheads. The stiff canes can smother and out-compete other vegetation. Known outbreaks in the Southern Tier have been eradicated to date. Plants should be grubbed out by hand, using protective clothing and gloves to protect skin from the sharp thorns.
