EVENT PREVIEW:
ADAM BEYER B2B IDA
ENGBERG ALL NIGHT
LONG
The Drumcode power couple
are set to play an exclusive all
night long takeover at Ministry of
Sound on 16th July
With their signature back-to-back sets a staple in
their touring schedule, the newly-married couple
have graced some of the most respected stages
across the globe and count the likes of Awakenings
festival, DC10 and Space in Ibiza as hotspots, and
there b2b debut at Ministry of Sound is sure to be
just as crazy.
LWE, who have a longstanding relationship with
Adam and Ida, putting on their first UK Drumcode
show in 2010, are hosts for the night. The brand’s
keen attention to detail and Ministry’s incredibe
soundsystem is a match made in heaven. Danish
duo Anek and up-and-comers Solardo will provide
support on the night, playing three hour sets
respectively.
ONE TO WATCH: DENNIS
CRUZ
The Madrid native has been
steadily rising since 2010
Since his debut, Dennis Cruz has made a name for
himself as one of the most talented Spanish artists
on stage today. With numerous top ten entries of
Beatport, nominations for ‘Best Tech-House Spanish
Artist’ and ‘Best Male Spanish Artist’ at last year’s
Vicious Music Awards, his own label Lemon-Aid
smashing the releases, and DJs like Marco Carola,
Erick Morillo, Joseph Capriati, Nicole Moudaber,
Paco Osuna, Roger Sanchez, Umek, Nic Fanciulli, and
Yousef playing his tracks regularly, he is definitely
one to watch out for. Make sure you check out the
killer playlist he knocked up for us too!
ARTIST OF
THE MONTH: SHARAM
Sharam unveils his sophomore LP, Retroactive, seven years after the release of his
debut album Get Wild
One half of the legendary dance duo
Deep Dish, Sharam’s new solo album
continues to tell his story through a
retrospective look at his influences,
going back to the days when he first
discovered his love for dance music
in the underground club scene of
Washington DC.
Retroactive, a collection of tracks
that Sharam has held back waiting
to release as a cohesive concept,
revisits his roots, moving from early
80’s Giorgio Moroder-inspired disco
to futuristic and dark clubby cuts with
bass heavy sounds. Moroder himself
features on the heavily synthesised
‘Crazi Flute’, and other standout
tracks include the old-school opener
‘Arpi’; ‘Over You’, which borrows from
the thickly-vocoded productions
of the late 70’s; ‘The Photograph’, a
14-minute collaboration with Alex Neri;
and ‘Here Comes The Rain Again’, a
cover of the iconic 80’s Eurythmics
record, transformed into a dancefloor
dubplate.
“I never want my records to sound like
anyone else’s, and at the same time I
never want two of my own tracks to
sound the same,” Sharam explains.
“Every track is its own adventure, like
an individual ride in a theme park.
Each ride has to stand on its own, but
come together as one cohesive unit in
the context of the theme park. In this
case the theme park is a warehouse,
filled with hypnotic rides and emotional
rollercoasters, and I’ve retroactively
gone back to all those rides and
influences”.
