5 EXPERIENCES YOU CANNOT MISS... 1 Sandbanks Provincial Park... 2 Presquile Provincial Park... 3 Ste. Anne’s Spa... 4 Sightseeing... 5 Tasting Tours... Sandbanks Provincial Park has quite the notable claim to fame: It's the world's largest freshwater sandbar and dune system. And that makes for one heck of a beach day. Swim in the crystal waters, some of which can get pretty shallow, and soak up the sun on white sand shores as the waves lap up. If you can get out on the water, there are plenty of walking trails to enjoy and some exceptional opportunities for bird watching. While the beaches may be the main draw come summer, the area is full of gorgeous fall foliage during chillier months. Presquile Provincial Park is one of our favorite places to see the leaves redden or turn golden yellow. With about 300 campsites and more than 2 kilometers of sandy beach, Presquile is just the place to immerse yourself in nature. It's also home to Ontario's second-oldest operating lighthouse. Indulge in a day of relaxation and pampering at Ste. Anne’s Spa. Book a day spa package that includes lunch and afternoon tea as well as a spa treatment. The spa includes a pool, outdoor hot tub, eucalyptus steam room, and beautiful grounds with walking trails and a wonderful relaxing ambiance. Extend the relaxation and book an overnight stay for the ultimate pampering experience. Drive the historic Apple Route along Highway 2 starting in Port Hope. You'll travel through the towns of Cobourg, Grafton, Colborne, Brighton, and Trenton. The prime time for driving the route is during the apple harvest in the fall, but this route can be enjoyed year round with stunning views of Lake Ontario, roadside markets, and craft stores. Be sure to check out The Big Apple in Colborne for fresh pies and attractions. Northumberland and Prince Edward are home to wineries, breweries, and artisan food makers galore. Delight in a Winery & Cheese Tour in Prince Edward with stops at Black River Cheese, Waupoos Winery, Del Gatto Estates, and County Cider Company. In Northumberland, beer, chocolate, and cheese take center stage with stops at Church-key Brewery, World’s Finest Chocolate, and Empire Cheese.
