THE SURROUNDING BEACHES...
Del Mar...
Del Mar is the northern most of all the beaches
listed here. Around 2 miles in length it has
different sections of beach depending on who
you're with and what you'd
like to do. Around Powerhouse
and Seagrove Parks you'll find
a beach good for swimming and
families. To the south you'll find
terrain more suited to exploring
beautiful cliffs, leading eventually
to Torrey Pines, the world famous
golf course.
Ocean Beach...
South of Mission Beach, before you
reach Point Loma, you'll find Ocean
Beach. It's usually a little less crowded
than other beaches. Street fairs are
typical, and there's also a farmers
market every Wednesday between
4-9pm. You can't miss (so don't!) the
nearly 2,000 foot long pier. It's 2nd in
length on the West Coast to Santa Cruz's pier.
And, if you like tide pools, there are some good
opportunities around the pier.
Pacific Beach...
Located just north of Mission Beach, this is the
cool place, attracting the younger crowd. But
don't be put off if you are looking for something
family oriented. The beach is good
for sand castles and swimming and
you can try activities like kayaking
from the beach. In addition there is
a 3 mile long boardwalk to people
watch, with plenty of good family
friendly restaurants. And along
Garnet Ave is a farmers market
every Tuesday
Point Loma...
Located about 15 minutes south of
Mission Beach, this isn't a swimming
beach. But we do love the tide pools
here. Grab the kids and see what
