THE SURROUNDING BEACHES... Del Mar... Del Mar is the northern most of all the beaches listed here. Around 2 miles in length it has different sections of beach depending on who you're with and what you'd like to do. Around Powerhouse and Seagrove Parks you'll find a beach good for swimming and families. To the south you'll find terrain more suited to exploring beautiful cliffs, leading eventually to Torrey Pines, the world famous golf course. Ocean Beach... South of Mission Beach, before you reach Point Loma, you'll find Ocean Beach. It's usually a little less crowded than other beaches. Street fairs are typical, and there's also a farmers market every Wednesday between 4-9pm. You can't miss (so don't!) the nearly 2,000 foot long pier. It's 2nd in length on the West Coast to Santa Cruz's pier. And, if you like tide pools, there are some good opportunities around the pier. Pacific Beach... Located just north of Mission Beach, this is the cool place, attracting the younger crowd. But don't be put off if you are looking for something family oriented. The beach is good for sand castles and swimming and you can try activities like kayaking from the beach. In addition there is a 3 mile long boardwalk to people watch, with plenty of good family friendly restaurants. And along Garnet Ave is a farmers market every Tuesday Point Loma...
