polo manager’s report
RH patron Ben Soleimani must be very
excited to play with the greatest player of
all time.
“It is fantastic news too that the biggest
low-goal tournament in the world – the
Archie David Cup – has a new sponsor.
Christian Heppe, the founder of Hildon,
always loved the battle that was a polo match
and so it is an honour for us to have Hildon
return here as a tournament sponsor.”
Some might be surprised to learn that
Antony is equally delighted about the
expansion of the schools’ tournament,
“I would like to remind
everyone that our game
is thriving – those that
think that this sport is
dying need their heads
examined. There are an
awful lot of people who
love playing this sport”
The Archie David Cup – the
world’s biggest 8-goal tournament
It will be interesting to see how Adolfo
Cambiaso adjusts to his new team
the Copenhagen Cup, which this year will
feature eight polo-playing schools. “There
is nothing more fun than competing with
your peers,” he explained. “This is what
Guards Polo Club is essentially about. I
hope they have fun because if not then I
will make it an old boys tournament and
get out there and tear it up!”
So what is on this Polo Manager’s wish
list for this season? “I would love the
umpires to continue where they left off last
season. We watched some of the best polo
seen at Smith’s Lawn for the past 15 years.
I would also like the players to understand
that the safety of the game depends on
them and not the umpires! You cannot pull
onto a motorway and then accelerate every
time someone changes lane in front of you.
“Finally, I would like to remind everyone
that the game is thriving – those that think
that this sport is dying need their heads
examined. There are an awful lot of people
who love playing this sport, you could see
that by going to any polo tournament this
winter. The polo world is definitely going
to keep on rolling and so here’s wishing
you all lots of polo fun this season.”
Looking forward to having eight teams in the schools’ Copenhagen Cup tournament this season
