Due to the invasion of the Roman Republic by Attila, the inhabitants of Opitergium were forced to seek refuge in the lagoon. The city became so important at the time that its name was given to the Venice Lagoon, called Opitergina. on The name Opitergium comes from Opterg, which means ?Market Place.? Oderzo has earned the title of ?Archeological City? and in 2007, the title of ?City of Art.? The city today is second only to Treviso for the number of annual tourists in the province.
