Exceptional Leaders Essays
The Exceptional Leaders program is intended to bring a student ’ s University leadership experience into the context of their quest for both a successful career and a meaningful life . Exceptional Leaders explore these ideas considering the Social Change Model of Leadership Development , which undergirds all our leadership programs .
In the fall of 2020 , each member of the seventh cohort of Exceptional Leaders was matched with an external mentor in their chosen field who also had a connection to the Mercy mission . Additionally , students were matched with an internal mentor who was a faculty or staff member here at GMercyU . Over the course of the year , student leaders and their mentors shared common readings and conversations about leadership as related to their professional and personal lives . Their stories have been captured within these pages . We thank them for sharing their experience , their learned wisdom , and their own leadership journeys .

The Movement of Leadership Jordan Abelson
Jordan Abelson is a senior biology major with minors in communication and chemistry as well as in the honors program . She currently is the President of American Association of University Women , Co-President of the Student Association of Science , Secretary of Sigma Phi Sigma , a peer mentor in the E-STEM program and a member of Student Activities Association . She is heavily involved in social justice campaigns around campus including Take Back the Night , voting registration , gender equality events and more . She will be headed to Brown University in the fall to study public health .
