With Dr. Rader as the new head coach, the Girls Volleyball players experienced the importance of team bonding both on and off the court.
Dr. Rader emphasized team outings as a key component to any strong team. Through the outings, players can“ build that trust and bond with each other”.
Their most memorable event was at their coach’ s house. While laughing and playing cards over pancakes, the girls got closer to each other as friends, and not just teammates.
“ Dr. Rader has a pancake and sock tradition with his athletes. He made the whole team a pancake dinner. During the pancake dinner, we also celebrated Christmas by exchanging socks,” said Sarah Jin, co-captain.
Through the special meal and exchange of gifts, the girls made many memories. Sharing these extraordinary moments helped them to rely on each other during games.
“ It’ s important for a team to be close to one another, and I also think that [ team unity ] contributed to us being able to win,” said Olena Vasyltsova, co-captain.
On the court, the girls truly became one. Monica Park, a newcomer on the team, said the older players were“ really nice” and always made sure they [ new players ] could“ understand what the coaches were asking.”
Beyond a group of hardworking athletes, the girls volleyball team became a group of close-knit friends. From hanging out at off-campus outings to training together everyday at practice, the girls became a strong, unified team.
