The Style Talent Operation Project featured outrageous performances and costumes inspired by popular culture and was filled with students’ own unique hilarious twists and turns. The winners for the music category and overall best modeling couple were juniors, Kylie Hur and Louie Chung. “I was Zayn Malik from I Don’t Wanna Live Forever,”said Kylie. Kylie was the boy and Louie was the girl, which made it a funny scene as they danced to the song. Their reward for winning was 40,000 won and was split between the two of them. In the movie and drama category, the seniors presented a creative performance from the Disney movie “Frozen,” including choreography and artificial snow. “We practiced the song multiple times,” said Soeun Kim, senior, speaking on the seniors’ success in being the class with the best talent. “I was Elsa,” explained Soeun Kim. Soeun sang “Let It Go” along with the help of her friends who sprayed snow behind her back to create the illu- sion of Elsa’s magical powers. For juniors Betty Hwang and Dain Shim, a lot of preparation went into their costumes in the games category. “We spent like two or three hours. We brought some boxes and glued some blue and red paper in order to make sure it looked like Tetris,” de- scribed Betty. The geometric costumes were completed with holes for their faces and limbs, allowing them to dance in tune to the music. “Our goal was just to be funny. We also tried to make legitimate Tetris shapes so that we could match together,” she concluded. Ethan Kim, freshman, and sophomores Alice Kim and Kona Brumsickle re-enacted a curling match for the talent show. “We basically used our brooms and a medicine ball from the gym,” said Alice. They pleased the crowd by including a reference to the Korean women’s Olympics curling team by calling out the name “Yeongmi!” This reference to the highly-successful Korean team mimicked the way team members called their mate’s name in a rapid, forceful way. Because so many of the students many watched the Pyeongchang Olympics, their act was understandably a success. “I dressed up as a caveman,” said Lucas Lee, junior. “It was actually pretty successful, we got a lot of reaction, and a lot of laughing from the crowd,“ he reflected. Commenting on his experience, Lucas stated, “At least for the junior class, we had a lot of fun.” According to him, they wanted to go “all out” for this event. In the end, it was the junior class who took home the win for the 2018 STOP. The award was a Baskin Robbins ice cream party for all of the junior participants. 2 1 5 3 4 1.
