GSIS 2017 Yearbook: #BeYou Volume 11 | Page 97

Some of us say winter is the easiest time of the school year, or some say it is the hardest. Some of us feel settled during the winter, after going through a couple months of school. That makes sense because by winter, we get our routines down, we know who we surround ourselves with, and we know what to expect from classes. But some of us are stressed with the semester finals coming up, and with the realization that the end of year is still so far away. But generally, winter is the “most wonderful time of the year” as the Andy Williams song says, with Christmas and Lunar break waiting for us. Everything flows in winter, as we get settled into school life once again. Speaking of Christmas, the elementary students greeted GSIS with joyful Christmas carols on campus. Acoustic Christmas, hosted by GIN club, filled the campus with marvelous musical performances ranging from piano to Acapella. If music and performance is what you like, these were your opportunities to shine. Frontline’s 5 days of Christmas was another Christmas-cele- bratory event, creating a warm Christmas atmosphere on campus by handing out small presents such as hot chocolate, hot packs, and candy canes. SCA pulled off another immense Pep Assembly, celebrating basketball players and cheerleaders’ work, as well as lower secondary swimmers. Pep Rally games enhanced the bond between the Knights all around. If serving others is what you are passionate about, this was what the winter season had for you. Both boys and girls basketball teams had a terrific season, while also being left with room for improvement, and represented GSIS proudly in Malaysia and Taiwan, respectively, with their efforts on the court. Same, if not more credit could be given to the cheerleaders, who kept the spirit alive during basketball games, and demonstrated the importance of teamwork through a fantastic performance during the Pep Assembly. Not to mention, the swimmers, who demonstrated significant perseverance in and out of the pool through an incredible amount of training. If being active on the court, and collaborating with others through sports is your favorite activity, you might have enjoyed these opportunities during winter. The winter season provided great opportunities in so many different fields -- from perform- ing, service, to athletics and more! All we had to do was choose what we wanted to get involved in. This choice does not come from anywhere but our passions, interests, and identities as individuals. As the turning point of the year comes around, it is important to figure out what you want, and push yourself through it. Be yourself, be active with your fields of interest, and feel free to explore on them! 97
