Aarushi Agiwal and Yuki Sugihara get ready for practice. They were chatting before Coach Kaiser explained what they were going to do for the day. 2. Maria Galkina laughs with her friends Aarushi Agiwal and Yuki Sugihara on the steps before practice. The students have approximately 10 to 15 minutes to dress out and report outside before their coaches arrive. 3. Chihiro Koga and JJ Hahm warm up their calves by bending deeply into the stretch and placing the sole of their foot onto the floor. Stretching before any physical activity is important to prevent pulled muscles. 4. Coach Kaiser gathers the students into a team huddle and explains what they are going to do. The team typically runs off campus and follows in a line as they run around Suwon. 5. Saran Watanabe and Keito Uchiyama join the team on the soccer field after their run. The cross country team always does a cool down stretch to aid in the healing of muscles. 6. Coach Kim and the elementary cross country team gather in her room before practice. This is their normal meeting area and then they walk as a team into the amphitheater for practice. 7. Saran Watanabe helps Xingshen Liu put on his watch. By bringing a watch to practice students are able to time themselves and monitor their improvement. 8. Emily Hong and Jenna Roh get a little silly during stretches and hold onto one another as they stretch their hamstrings. Holding on to one another also helps them maintain balance so they do not fall. 9. Ashley Nam makes her way back on campus after the group run. Maintaining strong form during a run redirects energy and aids in propelling the runner. The race got easier as I trained. Cross country was really challenging, so I felt a greater sense of accomplishment. I enjoyed running with my team, and they encouraged me to continue running. 79
