By over-exaggerating and by being expressive and somewhat crazy, the actors of the fall musical,‘ Snow White and the Prince,’ increased confidence in fully expressing themselves.
Exaggeration was a big part of the role for Grace Lee who played the Evil Queen.“ My character, she’ s really selfish and she thinks that she is the most beautiful in the land but actually, she’ s really evil.” Grace said,“ I don’ t think that I had any similarities, that is why it was really hard to act because I had to be really mean [ to other characters ].”
However, despite the differences, exaggerating the evil and selfish characteristics of the queen helped Grace contribute to a successful show.
“ For you to act really well, you need to be overreacting” so everything you say and do should“ be exaggerated,” concluded Grace.
Jun Woo, who played the Prince, said,“ expressing different emotions is just very fun. I love acting because you can be anyone from any place given the script. It gives you a way to imagine what it’ s like to be someone else and escape your body, the person of your consciousness, and become someone else and just try to understand others’ psychology, [ and ] others’ lives. Experiencing this outside my own life is really fascinating for me.”
Brendan Hodge, who played Rupert, admitted he was similar offstage and onstage because of his“ crazy” personality.“ Off stage, I’ m already a bit energetic with my friends and on stage I also act in a crazy manner and it helps to step right back in … it’ s fun being crazy.”
Acting in front of a big audience did not scare the actors away, but helped them face their fears and become confident. Through the confidence they gained, they could express not only their characters, but themselves as well.
Sunny Kim who played the Nursemaid reflected on this and said,“ through acting I feel like I got more confident because before I was kind of quiet and a bit more shy and only interacted with friends who I knew. But then now, I feel like I’ m more outgoing and I’ m not afraid to raise my hand and talk about things. I know that I can talk about myself.”
Jun Woo also emphasized,“ I feel like as I am acting and giving up my own identity by becoming this character I’ m strengthening my identity as a thespian, so I think that in that way, that strengthens me.”

Mystique has a tough exterior, as one of the older dwarves, but a soft inside for sure. She’ s always up for a mission, especially if it’ s one to save Snow
