1. Elly Kang, Aarushi Agiwal, and Nirvika Gupta soak their sponges in the middle pool as they get ready to attack their fellow teachers and students with the wet sponges. The water fight was one of big highlights of SEW as it was a fun closure for all the students. 2. Hanjoo Bae eats a whole lemon as quickly as he can to tag off his partner so they can run their part of the relay. The relay consisted of four different challenges, each with a separate student. 3. Jonathan Lee squats and jokes around on the field as he and his friends take a break from the field activities. Students rested after exhausting themselves from field activities. 4. Abhinav Jha, Saran Watanabe, Junho Cho, and Xingshen Liu eat their food after participating in activities. During SEW, lunch was a time for students to rest and recharge. 5. Sally Kwon paints her nails in exceptional speed as she was on the last event of the relay. The relay race required unique skills from each member of the team. 6. Ethan Park, Hanjoo Bae, and Mincai Jin gather in groups to play a competitive game of spike ball. This was one of the field events planned by Frontline. Many of the students overlooked this game thinking it was too simple, but soon realized how fun and competitive it could get. 7. Matthew Ahn poses as a‘ crab burger’ during the Burger King game. Students could pose as an‘ onion ring’, a‘ crab burger’, a‘ hot chocolate’, or a‘ potato wedge’. Those whose movements matched Mr. Lozano were out of the game. 8. Mya Freeman. “ The more you pray, the more you read your Bible, the more you learn the stories that are there, the easier it [ being zealous ] becomes,” said Mr. Lozano.
Lower Secondary SEW was held on Sept. 28 to 30 and strongly conveyed the theme of“# Xealots”. Students were presented the opportunity to grasp what a zealous lifestyle looks like.
“ Being zealous means being passionate about who I am and learning about what I like to do and learning more about who I really am and my identity,” said Julie Lee, eighth-grader. She continued,“ I felt like I learned more things about myself and I know exactly what I’ m heading for now. I feel like I am passionate about communicating and sharing. I learned more about myself and my identity; who I am as a person.”
Many students were affected greatly internally as a person, as many of them tied the idea of a zealot into their life experiences and their feelings towards being zealous. Nicole Wang, an eighth-grader, said,“ The theme of # Xealots made me feel like I was a valuable person and that God knows and loves me. I was able to look back at my past and think about what I am interested in and what I like to do.”
In addition to the students’ thoughts and feelings, Mr. Lozano and the Frontline students enjoyed the many activities they planned. Mr. Lozano and the Frontline team offered fun learning experiences to show zeal in the staff and students’ life.“ The Breakout sessions were where we were able to talk through some issues with the kids, and I think that was helpful,” said Mr. Lozano as he explained the activities which targeted the theme the most.
All in all, SEW ended in success as many students were able to both enjoy and learn new concepts closely related to the theme of“# Xealots”.
