Jeison Ward anticipates the ball as he gets ready to receive a pass thrown by Dr. Helen Rader. This drill required a lot of teamwork as everyone was relied upon to contribute in this passing drill. 2. Student coach Peter Lee instructs Keahi Brumsickle as he leads the hitting drills. Peter asked the students to put away the balls as they were done with the hitting station and had to rotate to a different station. 3. Saran Watanabe quickly adjusts from the ready position as he bumps and passes a hard down ball swung by Coach Rader. Coach Rader started going harder on his players as the season progressed to help them improve. 4. Maria Galkina practices popping the volleyball up for a perfect set. The key to this is to make a strong triangle shape with the hands and push the ball upward. The ball should not stop at all in the hands, but maintain momentum. 5. Soorin Kim warms up before practice with her friends as she works on her passing skills. Students always had the opportunity to come early before practice and to warm up by passing and setting. 6. Monica Park gets ready to toss the ball to her partner as a warm up. This was before students were separated into groups as everyone warmed up together. 7. Coach Laroche and Student coach Winky Kim gathers their group together as they go over the fundamentals of serving. This station was one of the most important as serving is a very important skill in lower secondary volleyball. 8. Student coaches Angela Kang and Louie Chung briefly discuss with Dr. Rader about the drills they will be practicing with the stu- dents. Mrs. Rader’s group focused on learning to pass the volleyball accurately to each other. 9. Coach Rader demonstrates the ready position with Yuki Sugihara as they get ready to shuffle across the gym. This drill was intended to help the players increase the speed of their footwork while retaining good form. 167
